Blow Dye Fun

Today we had some wonderful moments as we tried to make masterpieces by blowing the dye around the page through a straw. The trick was to get only a small amount of dye on the page, because if you had lots, the page became waterlogged and messy. Check out what was happening...

Information Reports

This term we have been busy learning how to write Information Reports. We have looked at the structure of an Information Report and know we need an introduction, sub headings with important information and then a concluding statement that sums up what we have written.

Room 5 and 6 are busy working on their Information Reports on Tigers and Lions. We have split the classes and each child was able to choose which Ferocious Animal they wanted to write about.

Did you know:

* Tigers are the largest cats
* Tigers mostly prey on mammals
* Tigers mainly hunt at night
* A Tiger's territory is large and it can cover hundreds of square kilometres
* A male tiger will share its territory with other females but not with other males

* Lions live mostly on the African Savannah
* Lions are the most social of the big cats
* Lions live in family groups called Prides
* Lions often hunt in a group
* Lions use surprise, speed and strength to catch and kill their prey

We cant wait to share our information reports in the classroom and share some more interesting things about Tigers and Lions

Support Staff Day

We had a very special assembly to recognise all our wonderful Support Staff and the awesome work they do at Merrin School. Each class was in charge of making a card and getting some balloons for these special people.

A Special Assembly

They all got to sit at the front and be
'treated like royals'
for all their hard work

Watson and Charlotte presented Tania,
our wonderful Teacher Aide with
a card, a bunch of flowers
and some balloons.

Construction during Discovery

We had such a fantastic day on Friday for Discovery. All term the children had been wanting to get creating with all the boxes, and craft items we could find. The classroom was filled with noise and lots of negotiations as everyone worked hard on making their new found creation from simple items. As you will see from the photos, everyone had a fabulous time making something special..

What's on this Week...

Hello Lovely Parents

We have a busy week ahead and I have some notices for you all.

Tuesday - I am out for the day going to Freeville School to see how Maths Attack works. This a programme that both Mrs H and myself will be implementing into our Maths programme. Cindy Giddens will be in Room 6 for the day and we will have a normal programme.

Wednesday - Orana Park Visit (finally!!!) Please ensure you send your child with a full packed lunch, drink bottle, Warm jacket and hat as well as suitable footwear for walking around the park. The children are to wear school uniform so please make sure they have warm clothes - long trousers, skivvy and polar fleece.

Also on Wednesday the scholastic orders are due. Please try to get them to me asap so I can collate them.

Thursday - We usually have Library on Thursday. We are in the process of moving the library to a new location at school (Room12) so until further notice the library is closed and we will not be issuing library books. If you have books to return please put them in the library folder box and I will arrange for them to be put back in the library once it is not so chaotic.

Friday - Discovery Day. If you have any old boxes etc for our construction box we would appreciate it. Last Friday I was the construction class and we had a ball. I will be posting some photos on the blog as it was such a fun session.

Once again, thank you to you as parents for all your support. I love having the conversations with you about your children and as you all know I have an open door policy for any concerns you may have.

Thanks
Tania

Term 2 Te Kotiritiri Challenges...

This term has started off well with lots of children in Room 6 enthusiastically getting involved in their Te Kotiritiri Challenges.

We now have several children who have read for 75 nights. This has been such a buzz for lots of children as they feel that they are improving their reading as well as having precious time with adults.

Another challenge is trying a new craft.  This morning Jessie excitedly shared her new craft design with the class..... a new cushion that she made over the long Queen's Birthday weekend.

Jessie's Cushion

Thank you so much for such a wonderful cushion Jessie. You certainly earned the tick with this challenge.

Watch out for more wonderful work from the Room 6 children!!!!
