Bringing out the Creative Side of the Junior Stars

Friday's Discovery Time was so much fun - we made some beautiful Collage pictures.....

First the children had to break up small pieces of magazines.....

Then they had to glue these coloured pieces onto the picture......

Next they had to find another colour to put on the next part of the picture.....

Lastly we cut out the collage and glued it on to the coloured background..
What Beautiful Designs!!! They are all very different from each other. Well Done Junior Stars.
You are all awesome.

Te Kotiritiri Challenges

Room 6 have been very busy with their Te Kotiritiri Challenges over the past few weeks. Miss Gallagher has been very impressed with the standard of work and the enthusiasm that the children have displayed.  It has been wonderful how many children have been busy in the kitchen baking with the adults and then bringing it to school to share with Miss Gallagher. (Not so good for the waist though!!!)

Below is a picture of Rachel with her book showing us how she made very yummy chocolate chippie biscuits.

Buddy Class Japanese Doll Making

On Fridays we had Room 14, our buddy class, come over for some Doll Making. On Monday 3 March it was Girls Day in Japan.

The 3rd of March - (by the Solar Calendar) is called "Hina-no-Sekku","Hina-Matsuri" (Doll's
Festival) or "Momo-no-Sekku" (Peach blossom's Festival) which used to be one of the important
seasonal events of ancient China and has now developed into a function symbolic of Japanese arts
and customs and has been in existence in Japan since the Edo Period (17 - 19 centuries).

Merrin School is a multi-cultural School so we decided to celebrate Girls Day by making Japanese Dolls out of wooden clothes pegs, wool and material.

Here's what we came up with....

Rapunzel Show

The Junior Stars were in for a treat on Thursday when we had a show called "Rapunzel" from New Zealand Playhouse.

The Story  - Rapunzel is the hot favourite to win ‘A Land Far Far Away’s Got Talent With X Factor Idol’. She’s a teenage triple threat, with the voice of Lady Gaga, the dance moves of Beyonce, and the hair of… Rapunzel!
But when she refuses to sign a contract with the udderly ruthless moosic producer Simon Cow, he locks her in a recording tower high above the enchanted forest to steal her singing voice with a magic tape machine.
What can Rapunzel do now she can’t sing? Rap!
In Action!!
With the help of a very handsome Fresh Prince, some very long hair, and a smattering of all your favourite fairytale characters, it’s time to flip this fairytale upside down, wave your hair in the air like you just don’t care, and put the RAP back into RAPunzel.

Thank you so much to New Zealand Playhouse who is now travelling all of New Zealand, and then Australia with their show. We wish them all the best.
Rapunzel, let down your hair

Farewell to Miss Yang

We have been so fortunate in Room 6 to have had Miss Yang visiting our class from Gongju, Korea. She has been so helpful and kind to all the students and immersed herself in the Merrin School way. On Friday we farewelled her as she heads back to Korea today. Below is a photo of her with the class before she left.
